How to get more from your LinkedIn status updates

LinkedIn is a powerful marketing tool, especially for B2B organisations. If you don’t have an active presence on LinkedIn you could be missing out on the opportunity to get your message in front of a large potential audience. When it comes to any social media platform there are always certain rules you should follow if you want to get the most exposure possible, without being annoying or putting people off. Here are a few techniques you can use for your LinkedIn status updates to help you gain the maximum possible exposure without irritating everyone in your network. Share articles and other content LinkedIn gives you an easy way to share your content with the rest of your network. By posting a link to any article, video or audio you have created, you can immediately share them with the rest of the world. Producing and sharing a regular stream of useful, high quality and relevant content is a great way to grow your reputation and connect with your audience on LinkedIn. As well as posting links it’s easy to share documents on LinkedIn. You can attach whitepapers, eBooks and articles to your status updates quickly and simply and this can be a great way to provide useful information to your network. If you don’t have any of your own content to share, you can share other written content with your connections. Sharing links to sites and information which your network may find useful helps reduce the likelihood that you will be viewed as overly self-promotional and can help position you as someone who is up to date with current developments in your industry. Encourage interaction by creating a poll or asking a question Asking a question, particularly around a current development or trend can be a great way to start a conversation and encourage people to interact with you. Conversations that people have commented on appear in their networks’ newsfeed so your name can be in front of a large number of new people in a very short space of time. Use the like, comment and share features Liking other writers’ content allows them to benefit from increased exposure. Commenting and sharing articles and information can be helpful for your connections as well as allowing your name to appear in their newsfeed on a regular basis. Liking and promoting other peoples content is a great way to maintain an active presence, help someone else out and boost your own LinkedIn presence at the same time. There are a few things you want to avoid if you want to be taken seriously and these include posting personal content or anything which could be embarrassing, or make your readers feel uncomfortable. Posting more than two or three times a day can be overwhelming so make sure you post status updates sparingly. This includes liking and sharing other peoples’ content. Make the most of LinkedIn and you may be rewarded with an increased network, high levels of engagement and a more visible presence with which to help grow your business.
